Battle of Gods - Genesis

At the origins of time everything was wrapped up in darkness. The whole matter was just a grain of light, and one of sand. All of a sudden they started to grow at an impetuous rhythm, and thus the Sun and the Earth were formed.

The Sun warmed the Earth, providing it with light, and in time a seed sprung, giving birth to a magical Tree. The Tree depended on the Sun's warmth, and came out into the light, dividing the Earth into two distinct components. The root sustained the Earth, and the branches sustained the Sky.

The Sun moved around the Tree, shifting its rays from the Earth to the Sky. Its movement created two periods, separated by light intensity: the Day and the Night.

The Sun created life on the Earth and in the Sky, and they became populated. First there were a God and a Goddess in the Sky, and a Man and a Woman on the Earth. The two primary couples, gave birth to two major races: the gods and the humans. The gods fed themselves on the fruits of the magic Tree, which were full of ambrosia, a magic liquid, that gave them a special power: immortality. Humans however were sentenced to earn their survival facing hard work and many tasks which daily life forced them to do and furthermore they had to fight death as well. Therefore they learnt how to exploit their territories, and got their food out of the crops they harvested from the earth. The humans turned their eyes towards Dagr, god of light, in hope he will guide them on their path to ascension.

The roots of the tree sprung deep inside the earth. There, in the darkness, are said to be the tormented souls of dead humans which have not proven to be worthy of ascension. Filled with envy and rage, these souls came to be demons who's only purpose is to spread chaos and destroy anything that is beautiful. In their quest, they have turned to Sutur, god of fire. Under his guidance, these creatures seek to surface and wipe out anything in their path.

Protectors of the Tree of Life, the alfen are thought of as a race of nature and fertility spirits, who are often pictured as youthful-seeming men and women of great beauty living in forests and underground places and caves, or in wells and springs. They have been portrayed to be long-lived or immortal and as beings of magical powers. They are believed to follow Freyja goddess of water.

Once a dead body was placed within it's grave, it was believed to become "animated with a strange life and power". Such was the power of Hel, goddess of darkness. In her quest for eradication of life, Hel gave some of them the ability to leave their graves creating the draugr. A draugr possesses superhuman strength, can increase their size at will and carry the unmistakable stench of decay. The draugr slay their victims through various methods including crushing them with their enlarged forms, devouring their flesh, and drinking their blood. Animals living near a draugr are often driven mad by the creature's influence. Some draugr are immune to weapons while others are others may come back even after being defeated.

Dvergar are a race of nature spirits residing in the underground. Unlike their brethren, the alfen, dvergar are evil in nature. Dvergar are generally described as being about 4 to 8 feet tall, big-headed, and bearded. Many of them are born with hideous deformities or have razor sharp teeth. Dvergar are skilled craftsmen, and most of their magic involves labour, craftsmanship, and metallurgy. They are also believed to hold savage shamanic rituals to appease Jorth the goddess of earth.

Devas are spirits attuned to the will of nature. They are apathetic to worldly events but will follow the alfen in battle. They are invisibile to the untrained eye and may take the form of elementals to manifest their destructive ways. The most common devas elemental forms are Sylph (air), Pygmy (Earth), Salamander (Fire), Nymph (Water). The elemental form is usually humanoid in shape; however, their being is comprised of the element they represent. Though the humanoid form is the way Elementals are most often described, it is not always the case. Examples of elementals in the form of dragons or with amorphous bodies are also quite common. It is unclear but it is believed that they follow Njoror, god of wind.
